Tavira is a charming town with a long history. It is one of the most architecturally attractive towns on the Algarve.
A roman Bridge links the two parts of the town across the River Gilao and around this area are lots of intimate restaurants and bars /cafes, some having superb views over the river. From here you also have views up to the castle and landmark clock tower of the church of Santa Maria do Castello, well worth the short walk.
The more sedate can sit and watch the world go by from an abundance of pavement cafes. Here you can grab a coffee and enjoy tasty patisseries. However, you can walk from one side of Tavira to the other in about 15 minutes or take a tour of the whole town by miniature train, which from experience the children will really enjoy.
The beach lovers who come to the Tavira area are in for a real treat, the beach is miles long and very wide allowing for either seclusion or to join in the many beach activities and games available. There are numerous beach bars and cafes for those who prefer to catch the shade.
